Keeping Our Focus on Christ

As Christians, we need to keep in mind that our faith is not just something we practice on Sundays. Our faith should permeate every aspect of our lives, including our daily decisions and how we approach our homeschooling. In a world that can easily distract us from what truly matters, it is crucial to keep our focus on Christ. Here are some ways we can do just that.

Prioritize your relationship with Jesus

First and foremost, we need to prioritize our personal relationship with Jesus. As homeschool parents, we may feel like we are constantly pouring into our children, but we cannot pour from an empty cup. We must make time for prayer, Bible study, and worship. We cannot neglect our own spiritual growth and expect to be effective in leading our children to Christ. Jesus Himself said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Let us prioritize our connection with the true vine, so we can bear fruit in our homeschooling and all areas of our lives.

Involve Christ in your decision-making

Second, we need to involve Christ in our decision-making process. This can be easier said than done, especially when we are faced with tough choices. However, the Bible offers us guidance and wisdom for every situation we may encounter. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” When we involve Christ in our decision-making, we can trust that He will guide us down the path He has for us. We can also model for our children what it looks like to seek God’s will in every decision we make.

Infuse Christ into your homeschooling

Third, we need to infuse Christ into our homeschooling. As Christian homeschoolers, we have the unique opportunity to teach our children about God’s love and truth in every subject we teach. We can show them how science, history, math, and literature all point to our Creator. We can also incorporate Bible study and memorization into our daily routine. Colossians 3:23-24 tells us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” When we approach our homeschooling as an act of service to the Lord, we can have a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Keeping our focus on Christ in our daily life, in the decisions we make, and in our homeschooling is essential for our spiritual growth and the growth of our children. It requires intentional effort and prioritization, but the rewards are immeasurable. When we maintain our relationship with Christ, involve Him in our decision-making, and infuse Him into our homeschooling, we are living out our faith in a way that honors God and draws us closer to Him. As homeschool families, let us pray for our grace to never lose sight of our ultimate goal, which is to raise our children to love and follow Jesus!

All for our King’s glory,
Christian
